2027: Nigeria needs political movement to dislodge APC – Showunmi

Otunba Segun Showunmi, a former Spokesperson for the defunct Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, has said there is an urgent need for a political movement to dislodge the current All Progressives Congress, APC, government.

He noted that the opposition movement in Nigeria’s democracy has come a long way since 1999, with some progress made with multi-party democracy.

He counted the successful transfer of power from one party to another in 2015 as one of the numerous achievements.

However, he lamented that the enthusiasm of citizens have waned over the years with each election proving to be worse than the previous, resulting in regression and downward loop in terms of turning out on election day.

“We have watched with agony as the clear ideological differences within parties have disappeared, making the choices first about individual personalities and less about values and ideology,” he said at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
