Benue ASSPPON Invests Ortom Grand Patron, Solicits Support

The Association of Professional Printers of Nigeria, ASSPPON, was inaugurated today in Makurdi the Benue state Capital with Governor Samuel Ortom as its Grand Patron.

Benue State President of ASSPPON, Lion Comrade Musa Sunday told newsmen that the choice of Governor Ortom as Grand Patron of the Association was due to the fact that he was a printer before he was elevated to become the Governor and he is now the father of the state.

Comrade Musa explained that before the inauguration, they were operating as Benue Printers Association and their activities were limited to the state. But they have expanded their coverage now to other parts of Nigeria in printing and Publishing.

He said they conducted census during the inauguration and advised all printers, shop owners, affiliate members or their representatives in the state to as a matter of necessity register with the Association so that their names will be captured in the dossier as according to him, no person shall be allowed to operate without ASSPPON valid certificate and ID card starting from 30th September, 2020.
The president who regretted the presence of quacks in the printing Business in Benue state who operate with the aiming of making quick money however expressed hope that their partnership with National bodies like the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria, CIPPON, ASSPPON, the Benue state Government, the Nigeria Copyright Commission and the Nigeria Police Force will help reposition printing and publishing in the state.
The Lion further revealed that that Benue ASSPPON which is registered with the ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has set up a committee to be able to access10 Million naira loan from the Bank of Industry to enable members expand their businesses. He appealed to the Benue state Government under Samuel Ortom to contract printing jobs to the Association to enable members pay their bills including revenue and taxes.
He expressed optimism that with the inauguration of the Benue chapter of ASSPPON as an affiliate of CIPPON, positive change will be achieved in printing and publishing in the state especially now that the Central Bank of Nigeria has recognized CIPPON as a group in the disbursement of Covid-19 palliatives.

“In terms of community service, we have provided facemasks, and sanitizers to members and printed posters and fliers to educate people on Covid-19 and its preventive measures,” Musa said.

Earlier in an address, state ASSPPON Vice president, Comrade Samuel Ankwagh identified Quackery as a major factor hindering professional printers from getting jobs as almost all civil servants have turned themselves, print contractors and agents amid piracy, plagiarism and forgery.

Ankwagh said, it was in order to check this menace that ASSPPON had informed all professional printers in the state that by the end of September 2020, no person shall be allowed to patronize the established print houses in the state without ID card.
