The Benue State government has taken a bold step towards digital transformation by partnering with Accountability Lab and the Benue State Bureau of International Corporation on Development (BICD) to enhance governance, economic growth, and security through technology-driven solutions.

As part of this initiative, a high-level meeting was convened Thursday at the conference hall of BICD, bringing together key stakeholders, including heads of ministries and parastatals, to discuss the implementation of digital rights and data protection in public service delivery. The focus was on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for enhanced transparency, particularly in public procurement processes.

The meeting explored the adoption of AI-driven monitoring tools designed to detect fraud, reduce irregularities, and ensure value for money in government contracts. These tools are expected to revolutionize procurement in the state, promoting accountability and efficiency.

Speaking at the event, the Benue State Commissioner for Digital Information and Technology, Mr. Kwamande, lauded the initiative but cautioned against excessive enforcement of digital laws that could infringe on individual rights.

Similarly, the Director General of the Benue State Public Procurement Commission, Engr. Dr. Comfort Adadu, emphasized the urgent need to enforce the procurement law enacted in 2020, which mandates e-procurement as a means of ensuring transparency in government transactions.

In his remarks, the Country Director of Accountability Lab, Mr. Friday Odeh, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting digital rights and cybersecurity awareness. He disclosed plans to collaborate with the Director General of the Benue State Bureau of International Corporation on Development to provide cybersecurity training for procurement officials and other government agencies.

This partnership signals a major leap in Benue State’s digital transformation agenda, positioning technology as a key driver for good governance, economic growth, and security in the state.
