Several Beninese living in Nigeria are suffering the effects of the craving for this precious sesame and incur the worst if nothing is done by the Beninese state. In October 2019, many of them experienced martyrdom. Some were ultimately expelled from Nigerian territory.
Faced with such a situation, the government of Benin has not folded its arms. Thus, he ordered 35,000 national biometric identity cards for Beninese of Nigeria who took part in the census he organized.
On Friday August 21, 2020, during the press briefing given by the national committee in charge of the issue, the Manager – Agent of the National Agency for the Identification of Persons (ANIP), Mr. Cyrille GOUGBEDJI, informed the public opinion about the availability of 35,000 cards of Beninese living in Nigeria. He also added that all these citizens will return in possession of their secure birth certificates.
According to the explanations of the authority, the distribution of these documents will be done very soon according to health regulations that protect against the spread of COVID-19 .
In addition, the government of Benin will have to think of the other tens of thousands of the remainders of Nigeria left behind.
