In the face of growing insecurity and communal unrest in Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA), one man stands at the forefront, advocating for peace and dialogue over violence, Chief Tarnongo Timothy Tiza, the National President of the Tyoshin Development Association (TDA).

The tragic killing of three Tyoshin community members by suspected militia herders sent shockwaves through Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West. In response, enraged youths took to the streets, unleashing their frustration in a violent protest that led to the destruction of key establishments, including the Gwer West LGA Secretariat and the palace of Ter Tyoshin, HRH Chief Abomtse.

However, amid the chaos, Chief Tiza emerged as a voice of reason. In a heartfelt statement, he expressed deep sorrow over the gruesome murders, sharing in the grief of the bereaved families. While acknowledging the unrelenting attacks on his people, he firmly denounced the violent protests, warning that destruction would only deepen the crisis rather than resolve it.

“Violence will not bring back the lives lost. Instead, it will push us further into suffering,” Chief Tiza lamented. “We must embrace peaceful dialogue as a more effective tool to seek justice and lasting security.”

His call for calm was not merely an appeal but a strategic stance rooted in wisdom. He reminded the protesters that burning down their own institutions and properties would only weaken the community, making it more vulnerable amid ongoing security challenges.

Beyond his words, Chief Tiza reassured the people of TDA’s commitment to working closely with Governor Hyacinth Alia and security agencies to tackle the security crisis in Gwer West. He acknowledged the efforts being made at the state level and expressed strong hope that, with continued collaboration and divine intervention, peace would eventually return.

Prior to the incident, testimonies abounded that Tiza, beefed up conventional security in his crisis-stricken local government to protect lives and property.

As tensions remain high, Chief Tiza’s leadership shines as a beacon of hope. His message is clear: the path to security is not through destruction but through unity, dialogue, and coordinated action with the right authorities.

In these trying times, his unwavering stance offers the people of Gwer West a chance to rethink their approach and channel their anger into constructive engagement. The battle for peace is far from over, but with voices like Chief Tiza’s leading the way, there is still hope for a future free from fear and violence.
