DG Benue State Public Procurement Commission: A Champion of Transparency Accountability

In a heartwarming display of collaboration and commitment to transparency, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Benue State chapter paid a courtesy visit to the Director General Benue State Public Procurement Commission, Engr. Dr. Comfort Akwonya Adadu. This meeting marked a significant milestone in the commission’s efforts to ensure value for money in all its procurement processes.

The NUJ chairman, Comrade Bemdoo Ugbe, conferred a “Comrade” title on the DG, praising her exceptional leadership and commitment to excellence. The chairman also commended the DG’s outstanding performance as the former chairman of the illegal mining committee.
During the meeting, the DG emphasized the importance of synergy between the commission and the media, ensuring that the public is informed about the commission’s activities. She reiterated the commission’s commitment to following due process, as mandated by Governor Hyacinth Iormen Alia, who she affectionately referred to as “Mr. Due Process.”
The DG highlighted the commission’s challenges, including limited space and funding, but expressed optimism about the future. She outlined the commission’s sustainability strategy, which leverages technology to ensure efficiency and transparency. The commission has successfully launched its e-procurement website, a testament to its commitment to innovation.
The DG’s responses to questions from the NUJ journalists demonstrated her expertise and dedication to the commission’s core mandates, including ensuring value for money, monitoring and evaluating projects, and developing a legal framework for public procurement.
As the media aide to the DG, I am proud to witness her tireless efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the procurement process. Her leadership and vision have earned her the respect and admiration of stakeholders, including the NUJ.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions, the NUJ has requested that the commission provide three laptops to support their work. This gesture underscores the growing partnership between the commission and the media, which will undoubtedly lead to greater transparency and accountability in the procurement process.
As we move forward, we remain committed to our core values of transparency, accountability, and value for money. Under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Comfort Akwonya Adadu, the Benue State Public Procurement Commission will continue to set the standard for excellence in public procurement.
