The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has reiterated the state government’s dedication to inclusive governance and sustainable development during a stakeholder engagement held today. The event, which brought together representatives from the media, community leaders, and various stakeholders, highlighted the administration’s achievements in 2024 and its roadmap for 2025.

In his address, Mr. Omotoso emphasized the importance of transparency, trust, and strategic communication in governance. “Our gathering today attests to the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to all-inclusive governance where every voice counts,” he said. He underscored the role of effective communication in fostering trust between the government and the people, adding that periodic stakeholder engagements are critical for promoting good governance.

Reflecting on the administration’s achievements in 2024, the Commissioner highlighted key milestones, including the successful launch of the first phase of the Red Line Rail, which commenced operations in October 2024, and the expansion of the Blue Line operations. He noted that these projects have transformed Lagos’ transportation landscape, with the Red Line expected to serve 500,000 passengers daily.

In infrastructure, Mr. Omotoso stated that 36 road projects were completed in 2024, including bridges and pedestrian infrastructure, while 51 other road projects are at various stages of development. He also highlighted ongoing improvements in bus terminals under the Bus Reform Initiative and the progress on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The Commissioner also lauded the government’s efforts in housing, citing the completion of 270 housing units under the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme and other residential projects across the state. He mentioned the delivery of healthcare infrastructure, including the anticipated completion of the New Massey Street Children’s Hospital in 2025 and the ongoing construction of a general hospital in Ojo and a psychiatric hospital in Ketu Ejinrin.

In education, the government has continued its focus on expanding access, with new classroom blocks constructed across the state and significant resources invested in the state’s three universities. “Our long-term goal is to ensure that every child has access to modern and well-equipped facilities conducive to academic excellence,” Mr. Omotoso stated.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Commissioner outlined the administration’s priorities, including sustainable infrastructure development, economic diversification, and deepening community impact through innovative programs. He emphasized the state’s commitment to environmental regeneration, leveraging technology for efficient governance, and expanding access to quality education and healthcare.

“We are focused on building a Greater Lagos that works for all. Through deliberate plans and actions, we will ensure that Lagos remains a beacon of progress and an example of what is possible when leadership and people align,” Mr. Omotoso concluded.

The stakeholder engagement served as a platform for dialogue and feedback, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to a participatory approach to governance.
