LASEMA Averts Another Fiery Devastation In Lagos

…Recovers Spilling Oil Tankers, Articulated Vehicles

Less than 24 hours after the Ogba fuel spill devastation, LASEMA in the conduct of its lawful duties, has tactically averted more oil spill fires in Lagos with timely recoveries of two oil tankers spewing their highly combustible contents from Lagos roads.

The recoveries which span the nooks and crannies of Lagos, include the extraction of two oil tankers involved in lone accidents that were spilling their combustible contents at Ojuelegba and Mile 2 respectively, about 24 hours after the Ogba NNPC filling station mishap.

Upon the arrival of the LASEMA Emergency Response Team, it was discovered that a Conoil tanker with unknown registration number loaded to capacity with 33, 000 litres of PMS reportedly fell sideways in a lone accident spilling its contents on the main carriageway while obstructing vehicular activities on Western Avenue, inward Ojuelegba, when it lost control while on motion, due to a mechanical fault.

Following Standard Operational Procedure to ensure safety of all and total success of the operation, the entire area was cordoned off and blanketed under the meticulous supervision of LASEMA to prevent any secondary incident.

There was no loss of life nor injury sustained at the scene. A joint effort comprising the LASEMA Response Team, Federal Fire Service, LASG Fire Service, the Nigeria Police and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, LNSC, worked together to cordon off and blanket the area to prevent a secondary incident.

In a similar development at Mile 2, inward Berger, LASEMA Response Team also recovered another Fallen Diesel Tanker with registration number BEN 215 XY loaded with forty thousand litres of DPK (Diesel), which fell and spilled its content which constituted a grave danger to lives and properties to those resident in the area, when miscreants commenced scooping of the spilt oil.

Recovery process of the accident oil tanker commenced with transloading of its diesel content into another tanker, after the entire area subjected to the oil spillage had been blanketed through the collaborative efforts of the fire services present, to avert a secondary incident through reduced combustible power of the spilt oil.

This led to spilling out of its content all over the area which poses treat to the entire neighborhood. The spilling diesel was being scooped by some hoodlums in the area, but with the timely intervention of the RRS of the Nigerian Police, Lagos State Command and LASEMA Response Team, the situation was brought under control.

The content was transloaded into another tanker, while LASEMA Response Team, the Nigerian Police, Officials of PTD and the Lagos State Fire Service were all responders at the scene, as the Agency’s heavy duty equipment (Crane) recovered the ranker to a safe place

Meanwhile, LASEMA Response Team in another operation recovered a Dangote Silos truck with registration number AJG -202 XA involved in a lone accident which occurred at Ponle, inward Iyana Ipaja, but did not record loss of lives, nor injuries in an accident attributed to overspeeding and recklessness of the truck driver, who allegedly lost control of his truck and got stuck in a drainage by the road side
