LASU Deputy Register Receives Rain Of Praises As Epe Division Organizes Retirement Party In Her Honor

Mrs. Anat Adesunkanmi is as fine an administrator as they come. A rather unassuming, and unobtrusive woman, she moves like a gentle wind, rather unseen but palpably present. Indisputably one of the most respected, most distinguished, most charismatic, most sympathetic, most responsible and responsive among the current crops of Deputy Registrars in Lagos State University, Mrs Anat Adesunkanmi is bowing out at the age of 60years after many years of meritorious service to the University.

Prof. Oladipupo in her tribute says: “She is my pathfinder. Apart from being my blood relation, I was able to pick some of my characters from her.
She was instrumental to my tertiary education and has supported me all the way.
I thank you for your role in my life. You will forever be my role model.”

The Epe Division, where she hails from has rightly put together a programme to celebrate her as she is set to exit when the ovation is loudest.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM is charing the occasion even as other members of the University Management joins him to celebrate a woman who has served the University excellent, bit in particular, has served the outgoing Vice Chancellor most commendably.

The Registrar, Mr Olayinka Amuni in his tribute to her said:

“I thank God for the grace for this woman to have served 31 years meritoriously in this university.

There are two sides to a coin for this celebration. First, as we are celebrating Mrs Adesunkanmi, we must thank God for the grace that she has received as an administrator for 31 years in this university.

Mr Olorunfunmi (SAR, VCO) says: “She is nice, honest and humble. She is a mentor. Her leadership style should be a subject of an academic thesis. There is need for us to be honest as administrators and that is what she has displayed. She is forthright, honest and sincere. I thank you ma.”

Second, we only gather to celebrate excellence. We are celebrating her because she has a number of attributes that we have identified with her: She is a stickler for rules and regulations;
She is diligent and timely in the discharge of her job; she is firm and has integrity that is unquestionable; willing to mentor people who have worked directly or indirectly with her; she is one of the strong pillars so the registry department providing qualitative service.
She is a peaceful and easy going woman; I do not know her as somebody who will bring unnecessary burden to your office.

When we went to leave service, are we going to be celebrated like she is being celebrated today?
We should emulate some of the things she has so that LASU can go beyond where it is today.

Chairman, SSANU, Mr Said Oseni, says: “The fact that the Unions and Mama had never been at daggers drawn throughout her tenure speaks volume. It was not so before her. Mama is gentle and straightforward.
Mama made that office seamless and whoever will come after her will not have problems”

The Vice Chancellor giving his remarks:
Says:

“I thank specially chairman of Epe forum for this gift (Mr Peace) you have given to me. These are things that makes you know you are appreciated.

What you have shown is that when you stand with me, I am not alone and I can act boldly.

Other members of Management joins them as Mrs Adesunkanmi is presented with a gift by the Division

This is an event that all of us at management agreed that we must be here because of the kind of significance it represents.

When I came in 5 years ago, I called Mrs Adesunkanmi and said you will be my DR. She said I am sorry sir, I am retiring. Meanwhile I already made up mind from ab initio that if I am appointed, she will work with me as DR. Eventually she agreed to work with me. The reason why I wanted her, she played that role and it worked for me.

I noted 3 things from what the Registrar said about Mrs Adesunkanmi.
One, she is a stickler for rules. She will always insist I go by the law when decisions are being taken. It worked for me because we are all humans. When you have very strong administrators around you, even when you want to take wrong decisions, they will do in such a way that you will take the right decision.
Two, I used her as a moral compass for myself.
Three, she is an astute administrator. She is always looking blank so you can’t decipher decisions from her countenance. She will not abuse her relationship with me to make a request of me. She is Mrs Confidential.

Mrs Adesunkanmi is prayerful.

I congratulate her family and everyone of us for witnessing this.

She has been a significant part of this administration, and whenever the story of this administration is written, your name will be mentioned.

I plead with you, whenever my successor comes calling, please support them.

Finally I thank Epe forum for putting this together. You are making a statement with this and showing other divisions that people who do well should be celebrated

The Celebrant, Mrs Anat Adesunkanmi, gives her response.

Says:

“I thank Almighty Allah for sparing our lives and providing the opportunity of this job for us. God has been so kind to us in our division. We observed that all of us that have been appointed to do one thing or the other for the university have excelled. It’s through God and not our making.

I dedicate this event to the VC, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagnohun, SAN, NPOM, because he has projected me.
I have worked with all VCs except Prof. Olumide. It’s not like all the previous ones have not been good, it’s just that now is the time people are being appreciated for their job.

The kind of accolades I have received in the last five years are more than those I have received all through the first 26years in LASU. I would have retired before now but for the VC who came on board in 2016. We have worked together since 1991 and it’s because of the truth I see in him that has endeared me to him.

I thank the VC for providing the platform for this celebration.
I thank all my colleagues for the support you have given me since we started. It has been wonderful.
I thank my friends.”
