A member of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council has observed that the appointment of Akin Osuntokun as the new Director General (DG) of the campaign council to replace Dr Doyin Okupe who was recently relieved of the position for alleged money laundering, was hastily done with a lot of issues that need to be addressed for the party to be successful in the forthcoming polls.
The inside source which preferred anonymity said, although Osuntokun claimed in a statement on Wednesday that he has dropped his ambition as a Senatorial Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed his name as the party’s Candidate which contravenes the New Electoral Law.
“My candid take is that for avoidance of doubt and distraction, Osuntokun should have presented evidence of his withdrawal from the ZLP and the suspension of his Senatorial ambition so that LP and the whole world would see.
The campaign organization on the other hand should have nominated either the Deputy DG (DDG) or the campaign manager as Acting DG while they take their time to appoint a substantive DG without anybody raising eyebrows”, the source advised.
