No Free Ride in Lagos LG Polls: Ojelabi Tells APC Hopefuls – ‘No Refunds, No Automatic Slots’
In a clear message to aspirants eyeing seats in the upcoming Lagos local government elections, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has declared that buying nomination forms comes with no guarantees.
Speaking at a strategy meeting with the 57 APC LG chairmen at the party’s state secretariat in Ikeja, Ojelabi warned that there will be no refund of nomination or administrative fees, and no one should assume they’ll automatically land appointments just because they paid.
“Let it be known no refund of fees and no assurance of appointment just for picking up forms,” he said firmly. “Only those who remain peaceful, loyal, and actively work for the party’s success will be considered.”
He also revealed that LG party chairmen will have a direct say in post-election appointments, reinforcing a merit-based approach: “Only those you can vouch for who truly served the party will make the list.”
This statement comes on the heels of the APC’s recently released primary guidelines, pegging chairmanship nomination fees at N5 million and councillorship at N1 million, with an additional N500,000 administrative charge. However, youths and women get a 50% nomination fee discount to encourage wider participation.
As the election fever rises across all 57 LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos, this announcement sets the tone for a contest where loyalty, not money, may be the real ticket to relevance. http://skynewslink.com
