Operation Zenda Donates N500,000 to Injured Inspector, Honours Him for Gallantry

A police Inspector serving with Operation Zenda, a Joint Police taskforce under the Benue State Police command, Mr John Oriyan, has been supported with the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) including award for gallantry, resilience and dedication to duty.

 

The Inspector who has been bed – ridden in the last five months at the NKST Rehabilitation hospital, Mkar in Gboko local government area of Benue after he was said to be crushed by a vehicle while on duty in Adikpo, Kwande local government area of the state.

 

CSP Gberindyer led other officers, unit heads and colleagues present cash donation and award to Inspector Oriyan whose leg was amputated as a result of injuries he sustained and was on the hospital bed.

Gberindyer who is the outgoing commander of Operation Zenda a crack team of joint police task force in the state, said the donation was contribution from his colleagues to help Oriyan offset some of his medical bills and psychologically boost his morale, despite the over two million naira needed according to management of the hospital to enable him recover fully.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after making the presentation, Gberindyer described Inspector Orinyan as a dedicated officer whose service would be missed and prayed for his quick recovery in spite of the little contribution his friends from police have put together for him.

The Commander who was worried by Orinyan’s condition with one of his legs amputated described the level of man’s inhumanity to man these days as worrisome, narrating that after his officer was knocked down, the owner of the vehicle disappeared only to surface days after with a court paper seeking release of his vehicle without any form of support to the officer.

However, Inspector John and his wife, Faith Orinyan, were full of praise and appreciation to CSP Gberindyer and his team for the love and support, according to the wife, “this is the fifth month we have been in the hospital since my husband had accident, his boss has always been coming to assist us and he has never allowed us to lack. I pray, may God protect and guide them all.”

Elated by the gesture, Oriyan thanked his commander and men of operation zenda for standing by him all through his trying moment and prayed God to refill their pockets and their families

Operation Zenda, a joint police task force headed CSP Justin Gberindyer as a crime burster has rescued several victims from kidnappers, dislodged bandits, armed robbers and other related crimes in Benue.

CSP Gberindyer, described motivation and incentive as very low, appealed to police authority to enhance its motivation and reward system policy to policemen to boost their morale in the course of duty.
