SOMOLU LG CHAIRMAN PRESENTS #10.7B APPROPRIATION BILL TO THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL FOR CONSIDERATIONS

The executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government Hon. Abdul- Hammed Salawu “Dullar” has presented the sum of Ten Billion , Seven Hundred and thirteen Million,three hundred twelve thousand five hundred.(#10,713,312,500.00) to the Legislative Arm of Somolu LG for consideration.
During the presentation, the Chairman said, the huge sum being presented this year for appropriation as against last year is due to the handsome amount of money the Federal Government was sending to the Local Government to carry out developmental projects This is meant to impact the lives of the people at the grassroot.

According to the Chairman,” the approval you gave us last year brought tangible dividends of democracy to the good people of Somolu Local Government across all sectors. I vividly recall your oversight functions and project assessment tours to our various project sites. Your verdict aligned with the views of the majority of our residents, who stated that, “we have performed beyond expectations.

He said, in compliance with the directives of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the workaholic Governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, we put machineries in motion to cushion the effects of the Fuel subsidy removal, by intensifying efforts in the following humanitarian areas:
1. Monthly Welfare Support for the elderly.
2. Business Support for petty traders.
3. Food Palliatives for the vulnerable
4. ₦160 Million Cash Intervention benefiting 5,000 residents.
5. Youth – Program focused on ICT and Technology Skills Development

Additionally, we instructed contractors handling our projects to engage mostly Somolu youths ,this is geared towards ensuring that they remain productive and financially stable.
The total size of the appropriation bill is Ten Billion, Seven Hundred Thirteen Million, Three Hundred and Twelve Thousand,Five Hundred Naira (10,713,312,500) only.

The composition shall be:
1. Federal allocation – Two Billion, Five Hundred Million Naira (2,500,000,000) only.
2. Value Added Tax – Eight Billion Naira (8,000,000,000) only.
3. ⁠Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) – One Hundred Million (100,000,000)
4 State Coordinated IGR- One Hundred and Twelve Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (112,000,500,000) only
Total : 10,713,312,500.
This sum will care for staff salaries, Primary School Teacher’s Salaries, Salaries of the Political Office holders, severance allowance, Capital Projects,Salaries and allowances of Traditional Rulers and others.

He sought the collaborations and approval of the Legislative Council for speedy actions on the 2024 budget in order to consolidate on the impactful projects to the people of Somolu; which includes the completion of the new Somolu Local Government Administrative Complex, Somolu Fire Service Station, Bashua Police Station, Wright Primary Healthcare Center, and Wesley Primary School. Additionally, we have successfully re- constructed the following roads ; Ariyo Close, Isaac John Street, Oyebajo Street, Kalejaiye Street with interlocking stones. We re- modelled Olaleye Ultramodern Shopping Centre. Infrastructure upgrades also extended to Owolabi Balogun Street, Ibrahim Alli Street, Fakunle Street , We shall establish a Table Tennis Court at Agunbiade Primary to enhance sports and Recreation in.our Primary Schools and many others.These achievements underscore our commitment to uplifting Somolu Local Government Area and enhancing the quality lives of all our residents .
He promised to leave Somolu Local Government better than he met it after his tenure.
In his response, the Leader of the Legislative Arm of Somolu LG.Hon.Yomi Osundare appreciated the leadership style of the Chairman in promoting peace and harmony within the Local government area, amongst the Councillors, the members of the Executive, Management and the general public.
He promised that the House would scrutiny the Bill and make necessary recommendations without any delay.
