The Benue State Public Procurement Commission (BSPPC) has reinforced its commitment to transparency and accountability in public projects by inspecting the ongoing renovation of duplexes at the Commissioners’ Village, Makurdi.
The inspection, led by the Director General of BSPPC, Engr. Dr. Comfort Akwonya Adadu, included a team of architects, engineers, and other commission officials. The team assessed the quality and standard of work, engaging with contractors to ensure compliance with professional standards. Following a thorough evaluation, the engineers and architects expressed satisfaction with the contractors’ explanations regarding the project.
Dr. Adadu highlighted the importance of professionalism in project execution, stressing that the commission remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring value for money in all contracts. She reiterated that procurement processes in the state will not be compromised under any circumstances.
According to George Nder, Media Aide to the DG, a significant recommendation from the contractors was the demolition of one of the buildings due to foundational defects caused by the original builders. Dr. Adadu noted that this underscores the necessity of proper planning and execution in construction projects to prevent costly structural failures.
The Director General also commended Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for his prudent management of public funds, acknowledging that his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development aligns with the commission’s objective of ensuring efficiency and accountability in public procurement.
The inspection exercise reaffirms the BSPPC’s dedication to maintaining high standards in project execution, ensuring that public funds are effectively utilized for the development of Benue State.
