CHSR SENSITIZES 50 YOUTHS ON THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA FOR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS

About 50 Youths of Agbado Oke odo area have benefited from the annual human rights training series on the use of Social media,organised by the Centre For Human and Social Economic Rights (CHSR).

The President of the CHSR,Comrade Alex Omotehinse disclosed the importance of organising the training for the youths on Saturday at Liberation centre,ijaiye alagbado ,that the training became necessary because of the precarious situation state of our national life as regard the gross violations of the peoples rights and the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria with the extent law with impunity by the executive arm of the government both the state and federal level.

Comrade Alex said in his welcome address that there were plans to educate the grassroots in Nigeria on fundamental human rights in every 2 months in order to make the people know the right way to present their cases in the community before the government and protect their rights from being trampled under feet.

He stated therefore that right is a gift from God which is very important for each leader to lead by example by respecting the rights of an average Nigerian. He emphasized that CHSR has always made ready her lawyers to support and fight for the rights of the people in nigeria just like how it was done during the October 2020 incident ,to canvass for the release of about 39 legitimate youth protesters arrested at the Lekki toll gate. Also added that the programme was held in commemoration of International Women’s day celebration.

The Facilitator,Comrade Shina Loremikan spoke on the chosen theme ” Human Rights Education in the 21st century and Sub- Theme: The Effective Use of Social Media as a Useful Human Rights Education Tools for mobilization of the masses in the 21st century” that in 1981 Shagari government has taught in its laws that Nigerians must be encouraged to sustain the fundamental human rights and know the mechanism to report it where there is violations of rights of the humans. So it is important for Nigerian to approach any court to petition to expose any government atrocity which abused the human rights from the national level and throw them out till they lose balance. He said even if your rights have been abused or violated 10 years ago,Nigerian has the rights to approach ECOWAS court in Abuja,Int’l Criminal court as well as creating more awareness to expose the infringement of rights in the nation from the Month of March,May and June continuously till we gain our freedom.

Barr. Ene Sarah Unobe said the Social media gave everyone platform to make every voice count just as it was used on Facebook,Whatsapp during the Endsars protests for the mobilization of the masses and engaging the community.

She explained further in her address that anti social media is like anti human rights,that Nigeria should begin to expose any vandalism in their community on social media and report what is done wrong in your area with pictures to your area representative formally as the Barrister had once done in her area when there was no street lights before it was addressed and be installed in her community.

She said this generation is so much blessed that Computer,Android phones in our hands with social media could be used to educate the affairs of human rights in order to enable the masses to know their rights. She said.
