HUNPE VISITS CUSTOM COMPTROLLER, SEME BORDER ON THE UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT OF STRAY BULLETS THAT HIT 2 YOUNGSTERS

Hon. Babatunde Hunpe (MHR) on Monday 6th July 2020 sent a high powered delegate to Seme border to meet with the Comptroller of Custom to get first hand information about the stray bullet that hit two boys – Hunsu Taiwo, 12, and Ganjo Henry, 10, who were playing in Sokenu Compound of Seme.

The MHR who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Setonji Sunday Balogun frowned at the issue, and was not happy with the way men of the Nigerian Customs at Seme Border were killing and wounding innocent citizens of Badagry Federal Constituency. And warned that such unwarranted act must stop henceforth.

In response, the Deputy Comptroller of Customs in-charge of enforcement, R.A. Adahunsi who represented and spoke on behalf of the Comptroller of Customs, Seme Border said the incident is unfortunate and regrettable by the Service and promised that such won’t happen again.

D. C. Enforcement said the officer is being interrogated by the service and will be punished accordingly.

D. C. Enforcement said that the incident happened during a confrontation with smugglers who were trying to smuggle petrol to neighboring Benin Republic.

“On Friday, July 3, at about 5p.m, a joint patrol team of command, based on credible intelligence went on an operation along Seme Carpenter village and identified a hideout used by some unpatriotic elements to stockpile petrol for onward smuggling to Benin Republic.

On this note, he said the command wish to register its unreserved displeasure with this unfortunate incident.

“As a responsible and responsive Service, we are working round the clock to partner with the family by providing all the necessary support to cushion the effect of this tragedy,” he said.

The MHR, however wish to enjoin the residents and good people of Badagry federal constituency to shun acts of smuggling.
