School Resumption: Kwande ES Urges Parents To Educate Children On Safety Measures

Says Exams Excellence Is Guaranteed

As the Federal Government of Nigeria has given directives that schools be reopened on 4th August, 2020 for exiting students to prepare and take exams on the 17th for SSCE and 24tth for BECE respectively, the Education Secretary, ES, for Kwande Local Government Education Authority, Benue state, Mr Titus Terzungwe Nember in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi, the Benue state capital called on Parents and guardians to sensitize their children and wards on Covid-19 prevention measures put in place by the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, before they resume school.
Mr Nember said the parents should teach the children how to use facemask, hand sanitizer, maintain social distance and other guidelines. This is because according to him, the children had stayed at home with their parents for a long time throughout the shutdown period and may not be aware of the safety measures, hence the need for the parents to enlighten them before they resume.
On their part, the ES said they were going to introduce shifting (morning and evening) to maintain social distance among the students and avoid over crowding, while government promised to provide them with equipment such as thermometer for testing temperature, facemasks, hand sanitizers and other materials needed to ensure safety.
Mr Nember expressed optimism that the students in Kwande Local Government will pass exams in flying colours as according to him, they were receiving unique education due to the unique nature of the Local Government.
When he was asked what made the
education in Kwande unique, the ES said, the local government has both national and international boundaries. He explained that because of the crisis in Cameroon, some refugees were camped in Ikyogen, Kwande East and that brought about a lot of contributions by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in terms of learning and the host communities are also benefiting.
So, the unique nature of Kwande Local government has helped the students to be academically sound and sure to pass exams despite the short time frame given by the Federal Government.
