LASU KICK OFF 24TH CONVOCATION CEREMONIES WITH PRAYERS, HOLD SPECIAL JUMAH SERVICE

Lagos State University has kicked off its much talked about 24th Convocation Ceremonies with prayers, as it held a special Convocation Jumah service on Friday, 11th December, 2020 at the Central Mosque, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

Though, the Vice Chancellor, Professor ‘ Lanre Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM, was unavoidably absent, the University Management team was in attendance to give thanks to God for his mercies over the university.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor( Academics), Prof. Elias Wahab, who spoke on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, informed the congregation that he planned to attend, but, at the last minute, he had to attend to an urgent appointment, outside the University, but, he brought good tidings from the LASU numero uno.
Prof. Fagbohun thanked the Muslim community for its unflinching support for him and the Management.
” The grace of Allah has been with the university, hosting back to back convocation Ceremonies for the past five years, without any interruption. Please, the Muslim community should continue to pray for LASU”, the Vice Chancellor said.

In his sermon, the imam, Dr Qudus Amuni thanked the Lagos State Government, the University Management , Staff and students on the success story of the university and achievements in recent times.
” We thank the vice Chancellor and the Management, especially on welfare. We appreciate those who donated buildings and more to the Institution. We call on well meaning individuals and corporate bodies, to support LASU”, Dr Amuni appealed.

The clergyman challenged the corporate world to do more and sponsor knowledge based programmes, adding that the government can’t do it alone.

He ended his sermon by applauding the efforts of parents and guardians on their wards, stating that parenting is a life long practice. He congratulated the graduands and wished them well as they go for the National Youth Service, soon.

Immediately after the Jum’ah Service, Prof. Taiwo Salisu conducted the special prayer session.

Other Principal Officers in attendance include the Deputy Vice Chancellor ( Administration), Prof. Damola Oke, the Registrar, Mr Muhammed Olayinka Amuni, the Bursar, Mr Said Olayinka Babatunde and the University Librarian, Dr Lai Adebayo.

Others in attendance are the Deputy Registrar/ Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Mr Wale Anthony and Dean, Students’, Dr Tajudeen Olumoko.
The Duo of the president, Students’ Union and Speaker, AbdulBasit Ashade and AbdulQuyum Aromire were in attendance, too.

On Sunday, 13th December, 2020, the Convocation Thanksgiving service will hold at the Chapel of Light, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, in the morning.
